            Are you an incoming student and you don’t know which afternoon Content class to sign up for? Don’t worry, group C collected student opinions from students who had done four of the courses. Read their comments to get the  inside story on these classes before you sign up.

Travel English and Culture

1.      What is it about?
One of the 3rd classes is Travel English and Culture by Professor David Hamilton. This class enables you to experience English communication in travel situations. So, in this class we did travel activities such as planning a trip, booking a flight, knowing about culture shock and preparing presentations about favorite tourist places that we want to go. Also, professor prepared for us for many situations through role-play.

2.      Homework and Difficulty
We asked some questions to 5 EIE students. As a result of the survey, 2 people said that there is no homework and 3 said it was appropriate. Concering the level of difficulty, one said it was easy and two said challenging.

3.      Overall Opinion and Strength
We asked some questions to 5 people after they completed Travel and English Culture. As a result of the survey, most of the people said that it was very interesting and were satisfied with the class. They really liked discussing topics, going around the room to ask some questions, and doing role-plays.
Through the class, they had many chances to speak English and could learn about foreign culture. Also, they made a lot of friends. I recommend the class to you!

Public Speaking

1.      What is it about?
This is the class by Professor Greg Skwarok. Public Speaking has an average 16 students. This class aims to develop students’ speech ability. It gives students a lot of opportunities to speak in front of others as well as teaches basic information about giving speeches and presentations. 

2.      Homework & Difficulty
In the survey, the common opinion about the homework is that it is appropriate. Four students of seven said that the homework of this class was appropriate. Two students said that this class had a demanding amount of homework, and one student answered that it had too much homework.
 According to the survey, this class has an appropriate or demanding level of difficulty. Over half the students said the difficulty of this class was necessary.

3.      Overall Opinion & Strength
Many students in Public speaking said that this class was really interesting and helpful. They also said that Greg is a very good teacher, and even the best teacher in EIE. They commented that he is very kind, and will do everything to encourage his students.
 There are many strengths of Public speaking. One of them is that it includes a lot of useful information to construct speeches. You can learn how to give a speech. Another advantage of Public speaking is that it gives you the opportunities to practice speeches. The teacher and classmates give you feedback on your speeches, so you can get to know your pros and cons in speech and make your speeches better the next time. They usually focuses on your good points, so don’t be scared.
 In conclusion, we recommend this class for who have special interest in improving English speaking skills. It is also suitable to the students who are very passionate to study English because it is one of the most challenging courses in EIE.


Business English

1.      What is it about?
One of the 3rd classes is ‘Business English’, taught by Bruce Barnes. It is for the students who want to learn English related to business situations. Students can learn various kinds of expressions and can use them through active role-plays each class. All 10 classes are composed of various themes such as money, negotiation, e-mail and so on.

2.      Homework & Difficulty
We asked some questions to EIE students who took Business English. According to the students, there was no homework, so they do not have to do homework late at night for the next class. Also, everyone felt it was appropriate for all students regardless of English skills.

3.      Overall Opinion &Strength
Everyone felt that it was helpful for enhancing English skills and learning various expressions used in more professional situations such as business. There are many different topics, so students could enjoy the class. Also, Bruce helped students who had a difficulty in learning English, so they could understand easily. He was a nice and gentle teacher and interesting topics of the class are the most attractive points to the students.


Debate and Discussion

1.      1. What is it about?
Professor Byron teaches this class, and there were 16 students. In this class, students learned practical skills and the processes of debate; also, they actually debated and each made a presentation in front of the class.

2. Homework & Difficulty
In terms of the amount of homework, students viewed it between appropriate and demanding; two said it was appropriate and two demanding. Most of the homework was preparing presentations and debates. For the degree of difficulty, they said the class was somewhat challenging; three viewed it as demanding and one appropriate.

3. Overall Opinion & Strength
All of the 4 students said it very useful and helpful; one said debate became easier after knowing skills and steps, and another said she could gain some actual battle senses. All of them said they would definitely suggest this class to those passionate to learn and improve English ability. In addition, they strongly recommended and respected Professor Byron for his passion and active and humorous character.
All of them said actual debating and making a presentation in front of the class was the most impressive part. They said they were nervous at first, but it was really helpful, and contented with this opportunity to practice. They said that during preparation, they could give some thought and know about topics.


Conclusion
Give some thought about what third class you want to take. All are great but each caters for particular tastes. The following charts organize the amount of homework and the degree of difficulty in each class.
